Mega Man (Rockman in Japan) is a video game franchise created by Capcom, starring a series of robot characters each known by the titular moniker, "Mega Man."
Mega Man, released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, was the first game in a series, and has expanded to over 50 games on multiple systems. The classic Mega Man series consists of eleven main games and one spin-off game, as well as all other console and handheld games featuring the original design of the character.
Although the classic series has yet to reach an ending, the storyline shifts to the Mega Man X series, followed by the Mega Man Zero, Mega Man ZX and Mega Man Legends series. All series follow one continuous timeline, except for the Mega Man Battle Network and Mega Man Star Force series.
