Crash Bandicoot is an American video game series created by Naughty Dog and owned by Activision. It centers on the titular character—an anthropomorphic orange bandicoot named Crash—on his adventures to stop series main antagonist, Dr. Neo Cortex, from taking over the world. The series takes place on a trio of islands near Australia, known as the "Wumpa Islands."

The series debuted in 1996, when the original Crash Bandicoot was released for the PlayStation on September of that year. The game was well-received by critics and gamers alike, spawning sequels and spin-offs.

In January 2000, Naughty Dog lost the rights to the Crash Bandicoot franchise and moved on to other projects. Since then, future games of the series were developed by different companies, such as Traveller's Tales, Vicarious Visions, Radical Entertainment and Toys for Bob.
